What you get

Everything in one box

Fresh coffee, every month

Specialty grade coffee roasted in Lombard by Spiritus Coffee and delivered to your door. Roasted days before it arrives, not months.

Staff ordering app

Staff scan a QR code, type their email, and order from their phone before the morning cutoff. No app store, no password to remember.

A screen your students work from

Orders show up as big, clear cards on any iPad or tablet. Students make the drink and tap it done. Prefer paper? Tickets can print on your school printer.

Setup, recipes and training

Picture recipes, a printed QR poster, a menu built for your cafe, and a training session for the teacher in charge. Then a monthly check in.

A fundraiser your students make

Bulk roasted coffee, bags, labels and a heat sealer. Students weigh, fill, seal and label 12 ounce bags, then sell them to families and staff, or at a farmers market.

Job skills that show

Taking orders, making drinks, weighing, sealing, counting money. Real work with real customers, built around your students’ goals.

Start where your students are

One box, two ways in

Cafe first

For programs with staff to serve

Open the staff cafe on day one and add the fundraiser bags for the holidays. This is how S.E.A.L. in Lombard runs it.

Bags first

For students who need more support

Start with the fundraiser. A partner program turns 20 pounds of our coffee into 26 bags a month and sells them to raise money, with no cafe and a small staff. Open the cafe when you are ready.

How it works

Three people, three easy jobs

Staff who order
  1. Scan the QR poster in the staff lounge, or open the link we send.

  2. Type your email and tap the sign in link that arrives. You stay signed in all year.

  3. Pick a drink, add a note like your room number, and tap order. Your usual is saved for one tap reorders.

Students who run the cafe
  1. Open the cafe screen on the iPad. It is already signed in.

  2. Each order appears as a card with the drink, the name, and where it goes.

  3. Make it, deliver it, tap the card. A picture recipe is one tap away.

The teacher in charge
  1. Turn a drink off when you run out, or pause ordering on a hard day.

  2. Set the cutoff time and a daily limit so the pace fits your students.

  3. See today’s orders and totals at a glance.

The four week pilot

We set up your cafe, bring the coffee, and run it alongside you for four school weeks. You pay nothing and sign nothing to try it.

We provide

Your cafe in the app, menu and recipes, QR poster, 10 pounds of coffee, a setup visit or video call, and a check in each week.

You provide

A teacher in charge, a brewer or the equipment you already have, cups and milk, and an iPad or tablet for the students.

How we measure it

Staff signed up, orders a day, and how much of the work students handle on their own. You get a one page results summary at the end.

After four weeks

Keep going at founding school pricing, or walk away. Pilot schools that continue skip the setup fee.

The money

Your cafe keeps every dollar it makes

We never take a cut of your sales. You choose how the cafe works: free to staff from your program budget, or staff pay with a card from a prepaid balance. Either way, nobody handles cash.

Here is what a typical cafe can look like over a school year. Your numbers will differ; the pilot shows you yours.

Example: 25 drinks a day, 160 cafe daysSchool year
Sales at $2.50 a drink$10,000
Coffee from us, about 20 pounds a month($2,700)
Cups, lids and milk, about 45 cents a drink($1,800)
Still Here program, founding price($2,490)
Left for student wages, trips and supplies$3,010

Staff pay about half of what they would at a coffee chain, the drink comes to their door, and the money stays with your students.

The fundraiser math

Twenty pounds of coffee costs about $276 and makes 26 bags. Sold at our store price of $19, that is $494. Your program nearly doubles its money every month, and your students did the work.

Pricing

Founding school pricing

PilotFree

Four school weeks, coffee included.

Program$249

A month during the school year. App, student screen, recipes, support and a monthly coaching call.

Coffee$270

A month for a typical cafe, about 20 pounds. Billed by the pound at wholesale. Order more or less any month.

Setup is $1,500 for founding schools and is waived for pilot schools that continue. Starting with bags only? You pay just for coffee until your cafe opens. Month to month during the school year. Everything stays under the usual purchase thresholds, so it can be paid as program supplies.

Questions we hear

Before you say no

We do not have a budget for this.

The pilot is free. After that, a cafe charging staff even $2 a drink usually covers the program and the coffee. The cost sits under common purchase thresholds, so it is a supplies line, not a bid. Local foundations and donors also fund programs like this, and we can help you ask.

We already have a Keurig and a coffee cart.

Keep what works. We replace the paper slips and Google Forms with a real ordering screen, and replace pods with fresh coffee that costs less per cup.

Our staff will not download another app.

There is nothing to download. It is a web page. Scan a code, type an email, tap the link. Most people order their first drink in under a minute.

Our IT department has to approve everything.

Nothing installs on school devices. The student screen runs in the iPad’s web browser. We store staff names and emails only. No student records, no student accounts.

We cannot handle money.

Then do not. Run the cafe free to staff, paid from your program budget or a donor. If you do want sales, staff pay by card into a prepaid balance. No cash drawer, ever.

Our students cannot keep up with a busy cafe.

You control the pace. A morning cutoff means students see every order before they start. A daily limit caps the rush. Start with brewed coffee only and add drinks as they are ready.

There is a Starbucks down the street.

That is the point. Your drink costs about half, it is roasted fresher, it is delivered to your room, and every cup pays a student.

What about the health department?

Rules are local, so we give you a checklist for your county and walk through it with you. Brewed coffee is among the simplest things a school can serve.

Who helps us when something goes wrong?

We do. You get a direct line, a weekly check in during the pilot, and a monthly coaching call after. We watch the system so problems often get fixed before you notice.

What if we want to stop?

Stop. It is month to month during the school year. If staff hold prepaid balances, you get a statement for each person so you can settle them under your own rules.

Where this comes from

Built inside a real school

Spiritus Coffee is a small roaster in Lombard, Illinois. Students in the transition program at S.E.A.L. label and pack our coffee for real wages and run a staff cafe on this same system. We built the program so any school can have what works there, without building it from scratch.
